Common terminology in Hawaii's Job Market:

 

TECHNOLOGY

Help Desk Technician

Provides end user first level support via Help Desk.  Also, provides primary support for personal computers, printers, and other peripheral equipment.  Install and maintain computer with required procedures, monitors systems performance and operation, identifies system malfunctions, initiates corrective action to ensure integrity of production applications, files and outputs.  Maintains production schedules for work processed on the computer systems.

 

Technician

Analyzes, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains computer systems, terminal network, peripheral equipment, and system software.  Performs routine preventative maintenance on all computer system equipment.  Responsible for maintenance repair of data transmitting equipment. Utilizes diagnostic programs and electronic test equipment.

 

Systems Administrator

This position is responsible for planning, managing, securing the Email systems. Assists with the security and operation of servers as well as an understanding of the network infrastructure. Plays a key role in assisting with the planning, designing and upgrading of the current infrastructure to support new applications and technologies. Supports software and hardware upgrades to network servers operating systems and applications. Includes email, antivirus and  application servers as well as  network backup integrity and recovery coordination.

 

Network Engineer

Analyze, design, test, and evaluate network systems, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), Internet, intranet, and other data communications systems. Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning. Research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software. Include telecommunications specialists who deal with the interfacing of computer and communications equipment.

 

Business Analyst

Conducts needs analysis, writes business specifications, and participates in system design and selection.  Prepares test plans, and performs the actual testing to insure compliance with the test plans.  Responds to user request for systems assistance.


Systems Analyst

Supports application software systems; performs feasibility studies, provides project management, requirements, analyses, and system studies; prepares system and program specifications and documentation; acts as liaison between IT, its clients (internal and external), and vendors; prepares conversion plans; conducts system and parallel tests; coordinates system implementations. While assigned to a project, the analyst shall provide direction and control over a project from its conception through post-implementation.

 

Project Manager

Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of assigned projects to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through supervisors or project team members assigned. 

 

Application Developer

Responsible for developing technical design and performing necessary tasks in the coding, testing, implementation and/or maintenance of organizationÕs software applications.  Responsible for participating in the analysis of business problems and the development of the recommended solutions, both technical and procedural.

 

Database Administrator

Coordinate changes to computer databases, test and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. May plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases.

 

IT Manager

The IT ManagerÕs responsibility is to oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of the companyÕs information systems. This individual will provide strategic management and planning of company-wide information systems including hardware, software, telecommunications, user support, supply chain management, financial processes, sales processes, network infrastructure, and support. Will insure system resources are adequate and available to all users and make recommendations for improvements.  The IT Manager will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

 

Information Technology Director

The Information Technology Director is responsible for the management of the IT department including network systems, business applications, desktop user support, telephony, technology quality assurance, data-system-facility technology security, and technology related projects. Responsibilities include overall administration and implementation of the IT department including development of department objectives and design, implementation of supporting units, programs, processes, policies, and/or procedures to successfully achieve those objectives. The IT director is also responsible for all capital department budgets

 

Chief Information Officer

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will provide technology vision and leadership in the development and implementation of the system-wide information technology (IT) program.  The CIO will lead the organization in planning and implementing enterprise information systems to support the continued growth of the company.

 

HUMAN RESOUCES

Human Resources Assistant

The Human Resources Assistant assists with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions and duties. The HR assistant carries out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: departmental development, HRIS, employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organization development, executive administration, and employment.

 

Recruiter

Coordinates and participates in external recruitment process including extensive sourcing, partnering with supervisors to learn about job/department/fit, interviewing, skill assessment, candidate evaluation, applicant tracking and referral, advertising, and representation of organization at local recruitment events.

 

Trainer

The Trainer is responsible for researching, budgeting, coordinating, designing and deliver of the  core curriculum programs.  Programs include, but are not limited to Professional Development, Computer Training, Health & Wellness,  Management and  Leadership Development. 


Compensation Manager

Conduct programs for employers and may specialize in specific areas such as position classifications or pay studies. Establishing and maintaining a firm's pay system is the principal job of the compensation manager. Assisted by staff specialists, compensation managers devise ways to ensure fair and equitable pay rates. They may conduct surveys to see how their rates compare with others and to see that the firm's pay scale complies with changing laws and regulations. In addition, compensation managers often oversee their firm's performance evaluation system, and they may design reward systems such as pay-for-performance plans.

 

Benefits Manager

Handles the company's employee benefits program, notably its health insurance and pension plans. Expertise in designing and administering benefits programs.

 

Employee Relations Manager

The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for interpreting Employee Relations related HR policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws for field personnel. Other responsibilities include coaching and assisting field management in the development and execution of corrective action and developmental action plans and investigating, assessing and recommending resolutions to employee relations issues raised through various means, including company action lines and direct contact from field management or other personnel.

 

Human Resources Manager

Oversee, plan and direct daily functions of Human Resource operations and activities to maximize the strategic objectives and value in areas such as labor relations, safety, wage and salary administration of compensation, benefits, recruitment, policies, procedures and regulatory compliance.  Diagnoses problems and provides appropriate recommendations to resolve issues; develops and implements new policies, programs and procedures.


Human Resources Director

The Human Resources Director guides and manages the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the entire company. The major areas directed are:

ACCOUNTING/FINANCE

Accounting Clerk

Under general supervision, performs varied and increasingly responsible clerical work related to keeping and reviewing fiscal records and processing documents involving fiscal transactions; and performs related duties as required.

 

Bookkeeper

Compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers.


Accountant

Examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements. Install or advise on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data.

 

Controller

Directs the operations of the CompanyÕs reporting systems in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices and statutory accounting policies and practices. Assists in directing financial activities of the organization by causing the functions personally or through subordinates.

 

Financial Analyst

Participates in and coordinates the design, testing, implementation, and evaluation of automated and manual financial accounting systems. Complies with accounting policies and procedures, and understands the operation of existing accounting systems.

 

Chief Financial Officer

Responsible for all financial and fiscal management, including business and opportunity  analysis. Provide leadership to the staff, shareholders and the Board of Directors. Works directly for the CEO and Board of Directors, operating within an Executive Committee structure.
